Call on the African Development Bank to finance a sustainable future
The African Development Bank continues to channel finance to harmful industries, and allows the expansion of the fossil industry.
The Bank has the potential to shift the scales, and finance the African future we are fighting for. We want to see energy that benefits Africans and why we’re asking for cutting edge, clean, affordable, renewables.
Join us in calling for the African Development Bank to finance climate action centred on gender responsiveness, human rights and African solutions.
Communities are facing the impacts of the climate crisis today, in which the Banks continue to fund fossil fuels and false solutions, such as carbon capture, usage and storage (CCUS) technologies, fossil gas, green hydrogen, mega-hydropower.
Even nuclear power is back on the agenda for the MDBs, the funding of which would be a costly and dangerous distraction from the just energy transition, as nuclear power does not fit into a modern, sustainable, affordable and socially and environmentally responsible 1.5-aligned energy future. It cannot compete with renewables in terms of cost, reliability, or safety.
